I make small ceramic creatures and objects inspired by the Cornish shoreline, often informed by beachcombed finds such as buoys, shells and pebbles. Each piece, with a subtle hint of expression, sits somewhere between object and being. I’m interested in holding the work in that in-between space, where it feels less invented and more like something discovered.
The work is intentionally diminutive, usually small enough to rest in the palm of your hand, inviting a closer, more personal connection.
When the weather allows, I Raku fire; more recent pieces are made from high-fired stoneware and finished with a selection of homemade glazes and engobes. These surfaces create stony matt textures, weathered colours and occasional bright flashes that echo coastal objects weathered by salt and sun.
