I am a self-taught potter making wood fired ceramics from my home studio in North Pembrokeshire. I also run regular classes and workshops.
My pots are thrown on a momentum wheel, powered only by foot. I like its natural rhythm and the slower speed. I also enjoy the freedom of hand-building.
Natural materials which I collect locally are often included into my work creating a sense of belonging.
For surface decoration I layer slips made with local clays and apply glazes consisting mainly of wood ash, It’s the elemental interaction of earth and fire in the wood kiln which gives the pieces their final character. My work is inspired by my natural surroundings, other influences come from the love of Tea, Eastern philosophy and aesthetics. I think of making pottery as a form of meditation.
