Carpenter & Cloth is a holistic brand founded and nurtured by Danny Fleck (carpenter) and Emily James (clothier), using traditional techniques to create clothing and shelter from the materials of their landscape in mid-wales.
Emily’s work explores the concept of modern indigenous clothing, pursuing a visceral connection between clothing, culture and environment.
The ready-to-wear clothing range is hand made, predominantly from wool selected from neighbouring farms and woven at their local woollen mills.
“My clothing is designed to be worn everyday, by men and women, to be comfortable and effortless. I design clothing that enhances my own experience of rural life; I design for warmth and practicality and grounding, celebrating the natural properties of wool. By exploring the stories in our clothing that connect people, culture and landscape we can experience a great richness in our everyday lives, which has been lost in the mass production of textiles.”
