Su Thompson throws stoneware vessels finished with crystalline and matt glazes. Using her own developed glaze recipes, she encourages the growth of small, abundant crystals, exploring colour and pattern within this responsive surface. Her palette of muted tones and textures is inspired by the colours and patterns found in natural landscapes and coastlines.
Su graduated from Cardiff School of Art and Design in the mid 1990s with a degree in Ceramics. She was as a mould maker, whose work explored the embodiment of the human image. This interest led her into to a sixteen year career as a hair and make-up artist in the film and television industry. She later returned to ceramics, and her love of making.
