Working with People with a Passion for Craft
Written: 31 January 2020
Together, We are Stronger
Our Craft Community is built on a foundation of partnership, support and mutual respect. We are drawn to organisations and individuals that share our passion for making and collaboration. One of those people is writer, editor and curator, Natasha Goodfellow who we have worked with for many years, from when she was deputy editor of Homes & Antiques and now as a freelance writer for top titles, like Garden’s Illustrated and Elle Decoration. Natasha has also worked in event production and is launching her latest project at the Garden Museum, Super Nature, at the end of March. We asked Natasha to choose her five favourites from Craft Festival Cheltenham.
John was a graphic designer before he moved into print making and it shows in his dynamic compositions and innovative use of colour. To me, his work feels modern as well as faintly nostalgic, and I can’t imagine I’d ever tire of looking at it.
Tom Knowles jackson makes robust, textured stoneware coupled with luscious, rich glazes that just cry out to be touched – especially when they’re allowed to drip down the vessels like thick chocolate sauce.
I’m a long-standing fan of Janine’s enamel work and her new leather pieces are every bit as good. Vibrant, abstract and beautifully coloured, they’re mesmerising.
Elizabeth takes old books found in secondhand shops and rebinds and frames them, section by section, in old type cases. In the process, she gives them a new lease of life, transforming them into works of art that echo their original theme.
I love a good blanket and Rhian Wyman’s are some of the most attractive I’ve seen. Entirely made by hand bar the washing process (which involves her feet in a traditional stomping technique), every single one is unique.
Natasha Goodfellow is a writer, editor and curator of Super Nature, London’s newest art fair inspired by plants.
