Let's Talk about Keith & Sue and we Announce workshops at Craft Festival Bovey Tracey
Let’s Talk about The Great Pottery Throwdown. Anyone else loving the Channel 4 series that is about mid-way through its 3rd season? Not only are we totally proud of Craft Festival Cheltenham exhibitor, Sue Pryke who is the new judge but we are blown away that the amazing Keith Brymer-Jones, Sue’s partner in crime on the programme, will be joining us to open Craft Festival Cheltenham on Friday March 20th at 10am. Not only that, he’s also chosen his 5 favourite from the makers exhibiting in Cheltenham. Cheers, Keith!
Who did Keith Choose…..I’m Really pleased and honoured to be attending the Festival as Craft has always been a passion of mine since I was young . The connection of a material one can use, whether it be wood, fabric, metal or indeed clay, has always fascinated me. I am a firm believer in a true Craftsperson being able to communicate through their chosen medium to create wonderful objects. Never more so than the array of craftspeople at the Cheltenham Craft Festival. My choices are….
Kind of for obvious reasons. I have known Sue for many years, and when I was asked for a new judge on The Great Pottery Throwdown, Sue was one of my first choices. Her work is simple, clean and the attention to detail of simplicity is incredibly admirable and inspiring.
I have admired Virginia’s work for a number of years now ,and although it is quite different from my own, I love the connection she creates between the old and new aesthetic in one piece. I have several pieces and they always make me smile when I use it.
For me, again it’s the simplicity and execution of the work that show real knowledge and confidence in whatever given piece she creates.
The use of the leather and the simplicity of design really capture the properties of the leather. I always have a theory, the simpler the design, the harder it is to achieve a beautiful object. There really is nowhere to hide. Bonner Studio seem to achieve creativity, simplicity and true Craftsmanship in every piece.
The subtlety and combination of colours within the work is incredibly pleasing to the eye and wonderfully executed. The construction of each pieces show a total connectivity with the material.
