Saturday September 5th, Black Pound Day
Over the Summer, our Director Sarah James met up with make Bee Watson from Wildhive to discuss the lack of diversity in craft, regionally and nationally. We are making some plans to try and re-dress this imbalance in the craft sector, more news on this in upcoming months.
In the mean time, Black Pound Day is a solution-based approach to support the growth of the UK Black economy. As a direct and peaceful response to the systematic racism that creates un-equality for the Black community in the United Kingdom.
Starting with one day per month, usually the first Saturday, Black Pound Day encourages everyone to spend money with local and online UK Black-owned businesses. Replacing your usual purchases with services and products from Black-owned businesses.

Win Do/Make by Surfboard maker, James Otter
We were so delighted to hear that James of Otter Surfboards had been ask to write a book about making for the ever-expanding series of Do Books by The Do Book Company.
The book gives you an insight to James’ making philosophy. It explores his journey into making and how he’s developed his practise, allowing serendipity to play its part as well as a dogged determination to make wooden surfboards, against considerable resistance. A decision that has served him very well.
James’ open and accessible writing lays open a world of possibilities, guiding you through what projects you might want to make. To Buy Do/Make CLICK HERE
The Do Book Company have kindly offered 2 copies of Do Make to Craft Festival subscribers. If you live to win a copy, CLICK HERE
